Postpartum Massage
Service Description
You can often have a gentle postnatal massage around 3 weeks after giving birth, especially for non-C-section deliveries, as it aids recovery, reduces stress, and relieves muscle pain from caring for a newborn, but it's crucial to get clearance from your doctor or midwife first, particularly if you had complications or a C-section, as abdominal massage on C-section scars should wait until 6-8 week When it's generally okay (with medical clearance): After a straightforward birth: Many therapists see clients from the first week if you feel ready and have had a smooth recovery. Around 3 weeks: Light abdominal massage might be okay if lochia (postpartum bleeding) is clear, but be cautious and always check with your provider. When to wait longer: C-section: Wait at least 6-8 weeks for the incision to heal before any deep abdominal work, though gentle massage on other areas may be possible sooner. Complications: If you had issues like preeclampsia, consult your doctor first. Benefits of postnatal massage: Reduces stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression. Helps the uterus contract and promotes pelvic floor healing. Eases back, shoulder, and neck pain from breastfeeding/holding baby. Aids in reducing swelling and improving sleep. Key Action: Always discuss your personal situation with your midwife or GP before booking a massage to ensure it's safe for your body and recovery stage.
